Bush-shrikes, boubous and relatives Information page

Description
A diverse group of generally colourful but skulking shrikes of savanna and forest. Highly vocal, with far-carrying, often melodious whistles, trills and rattles. Boubous have particularly diverse vocalisations with reglular duetting.
Unlike true shrikes this group hunts by foliage gleaning or active ground searching (not still hunting from a perch)
They are monogamous, nest is a shallow cup of fine plant stem, bark fragments, twigs, leaf perioles etc. sometimes bound with cobweb. Clutch is usually 2-3 with whitish or blueish ground colour overlaid with red, brown, black and grey speckling. Inculbation and care of young is done by both sexes.

Scientific names
Dryoscopus = watcher from the trees
Laniarius = a butcher (boubou)
Nilaus = (anagram of lanius) a butcher
Telophorus = to carry far (in reference to calls)
