Could be confused with Red-winged Starling, but has a predominantly cream-coloured (not chestnut) patch in the primaries, visible only in flight. It shows a bright orange (not dark) eye.
Juvenile is duller than adult.

In flight, a ringing 'preeoo'; warbling call, a slurred 'trrr-chree-chrrrr'.
