Crows and ravens Information page

Description
Large, alert, omnivorous, predominantly black passerines with board wings, typically in pairs or flocks.
They are predominantly ground feeders, taking a variety of invertebrates, vertebrates and plant material. They may associate with foraging mamals and they visit firefront to hunt fleeing prey items. Some species may crack birds' eggs open by tapping them against a branch.
Monogamous, probably pairing for life. Nest is a large bowl of twigs, sticks, wire etcetera lined with grass, hair, wool etcetera placed high in a tree, electricity pilon, windmill or cliff face. Clutches of 4 - 5 attractive pinkish or blueish eggs with heavy speckling. Incubation and care for young by both sexes. Their nests are target for the great spotted cuckoo whose chicks are raised together with the own young.
