The Cabot Trail is a highway and scenic roadway in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia, located on Cape Breton Island. It is named after the Italian explorer Giovanni Caboto who discovered Cape Breton Island in 1497. In English Giovanni Caboto was known as John Cabot.
The route measures 298 km (185 mi) in length and construction of the initial route was completed in 1932.

History
In 1936 the Cape Breton Highlands National Park was founded, currently conserving and protecting 366 square miles of the highlands and coastal wilderness across the northern tip of Cape Breton Island.
For extensive exploration the park offers more than twenty hiking trails, ranging from short walks to strenuous expeditions.
Cape Breton Island is covered with forest, lakes, streams and waterfalls and there are some fishing villages on the seacoast.
