Giraffe mating ritual

Displaying
Giraffes do not have a specific mating period, females are fertile once every two weeks. At the
beginning of a mating attempt the male will stimulate the female to urinate and the male tastes the urine to check wether the
female is oestrous. If so, he will follow her around until she allows mating.
Giraffes live both solitair and in groups, males often live alone or together with one or two others, females often live in
groups of up to twelve individuals, including the calves.
