Shovel-snouted lizard (Sand diving lizard, Anchieta's desert lizard)


Appearance
Body flattened with silvery sheen. Black crossband on tail. Flattened snout with sharp cutting edge. Toes of long hindlimbs have conspicious fringe. Hunts on slipfaces of sand dunes. Eats insects and plant seeds. Runs quickly and dives into loose sand to hide. Lays one or two large eggs in summer.

Habitat
Central and northern Namib dune seas.
