Ring-necked dove (Cape turtle dove)

Appearance
The white-tipped tail, which is conspicious in flight, is diagnostic. It is much smaller and paler than Red-eyed Dove, which lacks the white tail tip. It may be distinguished from an African Mourning Dove by having a paler grey head and a dark eye, and by lacking red skin around the eyes.
Juvenile is duller than adult and lacks the half-collar.
Habitat
Found in virtually every habitat in the region, but avoids dense coastal forests.
Call
A harsh 'kur-rrr' when alarmed; and the well-known dove call of Africa 'kuk-cooo-kuk'.
