Description
Small, gregarious, sexually dimorphic larks of arid savanna, karoo and desert. They tend to be restless, moving in respons to rainfall and veld conditions.
These small. short-legged terrestrial birds show a characteristic undulating, highly erratic flight pattern. They are generally gregarious, even when breeding and they prefer arid habitat.
They mainly eat seeds, but they also take insects. They are largely water independent.
They are monogamous, nests are solitairy, altough often in dispersed colonies. The nest is in the shape of a sunken cup, snugly lined with grass, plant or down etc. They lay 2 speckled eggs, incubation is done by both sexes.
