Coursers Information page

Description
Long-legged, generally nocturnal or crepuscular (active during twilight) lapwing-like waders, usually in arid areas or dry savannas. A distinctive feature is the bill, which is arched and has nostrils at the base.
They are probably related to thick-knees. They are groundbirds, prefering open habitats, their stance is generally upright and they are usually cryptically coloured, especially on the back. They have long, broad wings and they can also cover long distances flying.
They primarily eat invertebrates which they hunt on the ground with a run-stop-search-jab technique. Insects are often unearthed with the bill
One or two cryptically marked (probably to make them look like stones or animal dropping) eggs laid on bare ground; incubation and care of young by both sexes.
